Day 51 Carnarvon WA

Stayed overnight at Carnarvon on our way to the famous Monkey Mia, Ava has dreaming of visiting.

We visited the Carnarvon Space and Technology Museum which is a great exhibition of the history of space travel and Australia's involvement in the Apollo II mission to the moon. Carnarvon was a tracking station during 19564-75 and helped relay vision to NASA and beam live images to Australian TVs. It was the same story as played out in the movie "The Dish", except no cricket. It has the old consoles, great video theatre and a 1960's lounge room with the TV showing images of the Apollo II. Worth a visit.

It also built a weird looking satellite just to follow the Halley's Comet when it zoomed pass Oz in 1986. Now it has to wait another 75 years for it to pass- will it still work?

Ava and Joel walked down the One Mile Jetty which was used as a port in the early 1900s with diesel and steam powered wagons transporting goods to waiting ships. Its now a good fishing spot and a kind local gave Joel a few extra tailor they didn't need - ahh BBQ fish for dinner. Pity Joel couldn't claim the credit.
